Guest speaker: Fr. Max Villeneuve O.S.A.
Topic: Robert Prevost; Son of Chicago, Son of Augustine
Father Maxime "Max" Villeneuve, O.S.A. is a Roman Catholic priest belonging to the Order of St. Augustine (California Province) who currently serves as the Pastor of Our Mother of Good Counsel Catholic Church in the Los Feliz neighborhood of Los Angeles, California. He completed his Solemn Profession of Vows as an Augustinian friar in June 2018. Shortly thereafter, on December 15, 2018, he was ordained to the priesthood by Bishop Robert McElroy. Before being appointed as a parish pastor in Los Angeles, he spent several years serving as the chaplain and a teacher at St. Augustine High School ("Saints") in San Diego. He also holds leadership responsibilities within his religious order, having been elected to the Provincial Council and chosen to serve as the secretary and treasurer for the California Augustinians
From the neighborhoods of Chicago to the missions of Peru, and ultimately to the Chair of St. Peter, Robert Francis Prevost's journey is a remarkable chapter in the history of Catholicism in America.
Elected Pope Leo XIV on May 8, 2025, he became the first American-born pope and the first Augustinian to lead the Universal Church. His life reflects the enduring influence of St. Augustine—whose teachings on truth, humility, unity, and the restless human heart continue to guide Christians today.
